Industrial
Industry was key to the industrial revolution in New England, but the area has long suffered from a period of deindustrialization since the first half of the 20th century. Historically a center of industry and manufacturing, the six states seemed unable to thrive as several companies migrated west, while textile and furniture manufacturing went south. The loss of these facilities and jobs as well as production being moved overseas makes the future of manufacturing in New England seem bleak.
Drive down any highway in the northeast and odds are you’ll see signs of industry that have vanished and might never come back. Decommissioned plants, mills, factories litter the horizon as aging buildings, equipment and high labor costs have made it hard for New England to keep up.
